WELCOME TO THE THIRD DARK AGE

The NEW CHURCH OF CONTRITION reigns sovereign, keeping all under His vigilant eye. No transgression is hidden for long and those branded as sinners face retribution without fail.

Due to unfortunate circunstances of fate, you were left with no choice but to take the OATH OF ABJURATION in complete servitude to the Church, or to undergo The Purgation for your sins - a fate a thousandfold worse than death itself.

Now with all traces of your previous identity erased, you are a CRUCESIGNATUS - Signed by the Cross - sent on a holy campaign to purge the endless Profaners of Gehenna and redeem your lost soul.

The horde is vicious and evergrowing, and with no hope of escaping or ending them you can only pray to be granted absolution from your sins when you meet your demise...

HARDER FASTER STRONGER

This is a neon action survival shoot em' up roguelike game where each run is unique as you evolve from the random choice of upgrades given to you by collecting dropped Essence orbs and leveling up.

As you progress, so does the Profaners horde grows stronger in number and power  - how long can you survive against their vicious swarm?

I like the style and play of the game, but I do have a few suggestions:

There seems to be too few health drops, leading to death by the "heretic" bats. This point is especially troubling when paired with the next issue.

The movement is a little clunky. A bit less start-up time for running would be nice, as it feels too slow to get moving once stopped.

For the upgrade menu, I have gotten the same upgrade for all three slots. Perhaps ensuring that no duplicates appear would be good.

The electric field is too small to be immediately useful, leading to a worse off position. I believe increasing its starting range would help it.

All in all, though, good work so far. Hopefully, some of the issues could be addressed without too much hassle on your end.

still having fun with this game months later. Hope all is well!

electric aura is a cool idea, you could probably make another game just about it. i enjoyed playing the game, but i feel like some effects are too much and makes reading text more difficult

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to hear you've enjoying playing it! Definitely will be looking into the effects so the readability isn't compromised as that is a big deal

Hey, this is a fantastic game!

I loved the narrative, especially the "Fear of the Dark" reference.

I have some feedback:

  • It would be nice to have the option to remove the old tv post-processing, it looks weird on a big curved monitor.
  • I got some skill upgrades duplicated, and it should be unique to give  the players more options
  • Do the enemies stop chasing the player if they are too far away? It feels unnatural.
  • The player could have some initial projectile, independent of the initial upgrade.
  • What does the heart pickup do?
  • Destructible objects could be more apparent

I also have a pretty similar game, and I'd love to hear your opinion!

Here's the link.

Cheers!

Those are some very valid points you bring, for sure some I'd like to improve on some of them. The blue "heart" is actually a random powerup you get that gives you a temporary boost in speed, damage, etc - It should be more apparent when there are more enemies on screen.

And I'll be checking out your game for sure, thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to see you're enjoying the game so far

Aura is INSANE if you buff it up... and the game most DEFINITELY does not want to to reach 20 minutes:D

Hahah that's true, and thank you for the feedback!

While I'm still working on balacing the wave progression and such, at the 20-minute mark things should be really chaotic already lol

50+ Cthulu bosses at once? Yeah I would call that chaotic:D
